Preview: Eyeon Digital Fusion 5

Eyeon Digital Fusion 5, shown by IVS at IBTS 2004, was the leading application for digital compositing, used for the visual effects of many contemporary films. Its success came from the efficiency of its compositing engine, its node-based flow and the DFScript scripting language, and version 5 added powerful 3D features.

Eyeon's preview of Fusion 5 highlighted these new features:
- Flow improvements: optional direct pipes between tools, a flow navigator for large flows, a find tool, and masks and their connections visible in the flow.
- ASCII compositions: projects are saved as text files (*.comp, previously *.flw) made of nested tables, easy to read and edit with DFScript or any other scripting language.
- OpenGL implementation: fully OpenGL-accelerated display views supporting a 3D environment where image planes, particles, text and basic shapes coexist, with a native camera able to import camera paths from most 3D applications and trackers.
- Masking improvements: polylines made of Bézier curves or B-splines, with single or inner/outer shapes for variable edge softness.

2003
- 20 November 2003 - IBTS 2003: IVS and Leitch announce their collaboration for IBTS 2003. On the Leitch booth IVS staff demonstrate dpsVelocityQ Quattrus and dpsVelocity, and present the world premiere of the Italian version of the Velocity software. Paolo Castellano (IVS managing director): "We are proud that Leitch has chosen us to represent its post-production products; we will present the world premiere of Velocity in Italian, the first and only high-end editing software available in our language."
- 30 October 2003 - MPEG-2 export and simultaneous output to tape with dpsVelocityQ, thanks to new drivers developed exclusively by IVS. After a year of development, changes to the dpsQuattrus drivers increased performance and reliability: full efficiency with system disks and maximum export speed for multimedia clips, with MPEG-2 export of a timeline complete with audio while recording to tape. The driver was initially available only on IVSQ systems, pending an agreement between IVS and Leitch to make it available to all users; dpsVelocity/dpsReality users would also benefit.
- 1 October 2003 - IVS becomes the exclusive Eyeon distributor (Digital Fusion and DFX+).
- 1 October 2003 - VelocityQ and Velocity 8.2 are available in Italian, an IVS-exclusive development: menus, windows, warnings and error messages of dpsVelocity have been translated. Free for all IVSQ users.
