Frequently asked questions
How many minutes of video can a recordable DVD hold?
You need to determine a few important factors: the capacity of the disc (e.g. 4.7 GB or 8.5 GB) and the quality, or MPEG-2 bitrate, of the video and audio to be burned. The old site offered a practical table in which the first three factors could be changed to estimate, with good approximation, the capacity of the DVD in minutes. Notes on the table:
- DVD capacity in GB: the value universally stated by disc manufacturers. For example, 4.7 GB corresponds to 4.38 GB actually addressable.
- Audio bitrate 1500 kbit/s: the data rate of uncompressed PCM/WAV audio, useful for DVD authoring programs that do not support compressed audio.
Tips and tutorials
The old support area organised tips and tutorials by product, with a search by keyword, part number or product name. Their content has not been recovered; many discussions and how-tos were published on the IVS Forum.
